A black-and-white thriller that recalls Brazil’s Cinema Novo, Foreign Land tells the love story of a man and a woman whose lives are affected by the corruption and political intrigue that surround them. The director, Walter Salles Jr., has become internationally famous in the last year for his widely praised film Central Station. The Austin Film Society’s five-part Contemporary Barazilian Cinema series continues on Tuesdays through October 5.
