Fanny and Alexander
1982, R, 188 min.
Directed by Ingmar Bergman, Starring Ewa Froling, Pernilla Allwin, Bertil Guve, Erland Josephson.

This semi-autobiographical film from the great Swedish master’s late career is regarded by many as his crowing achievement. It tells the story of a large extended family at the turn of the last century as seen mostly through the eyes of a young boy. After his father’s death, the boy’s mother marries an austere clergyman, and the boy and his sister seek escape.
