Each semester the students in Andy Garrison’s East Austin Documentary Project at UT research and produce videos from and about East Austin. This third semester’s videos include profiles of bluesman Clarence Pierce of the Eastside Kings; Mrs. Robinson, a neighborhood resident who has been taking people in and helping them find housing for over 20 years; and the Green and White Grocery, an Eastside herbaria. The video topics also document the lives of residents who live in the shadow of the Holly Street Power Plant; the non-traditional healing practice of curandismo; the views of a young woman in high school who identifies herself as a boy – and the thoughts of parents and friends; and the assimilation conflicts of a third-generation American with family from Mexico whose classmates are Mexican immigrants.
