The FP

Drafthouse Films, the year-old distribution arm of Alamo Drafthouse, announced today that its acquisition of SXSW alum The FP, an Eighties-loving, post-apocalyptic action comedy from brothers Jason and Brandon Trost.

The Chronicle admired the film’s bizarro pluck when it world-premiered at SXSW Film this March: “If Mr. Miyagi locked the Karate Kid in a cellar with a battered VHS copy of Kickboxer for thrills, Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ for style tips, and a catering pack of Pixy Stix for lunch, he’d make The FP.”

Drafthouse Films is aiming for a limited release in early 2012. This is the outfit’s second acquisition; the company debuted with U.S. distribution of the critically adored (if box-office-anemic) political satire Four Lions.

Drafthouse Films also announced that Evan Husney, previously of Troma Entertainment and Severin Films, will take over as the company’s new director; new duties include “oversee[ing] all aspects of acquisitions, distribution, promotion and marketing for their future slate of new and repertory releases.”
