Actor Russell Crowe greeted fans and cameras at the Metropolitan Theatre on Sunday night for an invitation-only preview screening of his upcoming film A Beautiful Mind. The packed-house screening, flanked on all sides by state troopers and PR reps, was held for Crowe’s friend, Gov. Rick Perry. The notoriously bad-tempered Crowe, a native New Zealander, was by all accounts charming, affable, and Austin-friendly, both on the carpet and during a post-screening Q&A, genially bellowing, “Where the hell’s that Shiner Bock when you need it?” A Beautiful Mind opens nationally on Christmas Day. See “Short Cuts” for more Crowe-ing.
