The other day, we got an email from the Austin Planetarium, and our first reaction was, Wait, what? Austin has a planetarium? That’s awesome. Well, not quite: It started as an exploratory committee and has since matured into a nonprofit that’s doing its darndest to get a planetarium to Austin. (‘Cause seriously? That would be awesome.)

You can show your support for the plan – and hang with other Trekkie fans – by buying a ticket to the Austin Planetarium sponsored Star Trek premiere party and IMAX screening next Friday (May 8) from 6 to 9pm at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. (The film screens at 9:30pm.)

Party highlights include: a performance by the Austin Wind Symphony featuring “Music From the Final Frontier”; a Trek costume contest; a performance by Start Trekkin (Austin improv group); and a raffle for a chance to win a Zero-G flight from Space Adventures with Richard Garriott.
