Last week, the Austin Film Festival announced this year’s recipient of the Extraordinary Contribution to Filmmaking Award, and he’s a pretty familiar troublemaker in these environs. Robert Rodriguez, writer/director/producer/composer/FX whiz/Troublemaker Studios co-founder/unstoppable hyphenate, will receive AFF’s 2010 Extraordinary Contribution to Filmmaking Award, joining previously announced honorees David Simon (The Wire) and David Peoples (Twelve Monkeys). All three will be feted at AFF’s awards luncheon, held on Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Austin Club.
AFF HQ also announced its opening night films, both world premieres. Phil Rosenthal will be on hand to present Exporting Raymond, a personal documentary about trying to get a Russian-language version of Everybody Loves Raymond (which he created) up and running, while Horton Foote’s last script forms the basis for Main Street, starring Orlando Bloom, Colin Firth, and Patricia Clarkson.
The Austin Film Festival runs Oct. 21-28. See www.austinfilmfestival.com for ticket info as well as for the complete film lineup and conference schedule.
