Serious Moonlight

You’ll be hearing a lot more from us about the Austin Film Festival in next week’s issue, but for now we just want to make sure you have the festival dates circled in big red marker on your day planner. Badges are still available to the conference, where you can hobnob with today’s premier TV and film writers, including Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner (see next week’s issue for “TV Eye” columnist Belinda Acosta’s recent chat with him), as well as pick up tips, tricks, and what-not-to-dos in any of the plethora of panels running Thursday, Oct. 22, through Sunday, Oct. 25. (And be sure to hang out at the Driskill Bar – you’ll get lots of good material there, too.) Tickets are also on sale for the film festival, which runs Oct. 22-29 and kicks off Thursday with opening-night film Serious Moonlight. Director Cheryl Hines – whose day job is as an actress on Curb Your Enthusiasm – will be in attendance. Certainly at a festival devoted to all things screenwriting, you can be sure the night will include a fond nod (and likely more) to Serious Moonlight‘s scripter, the late Adrienne Shelly (Waitress).
