The Austin Adopt-a-Minefield Film Festival features information on what is being done to eliminate the 60 million land mines that currently exist in 70 countries around the world and kill or maim 26,000 civilians every year. The films focus on American land mine survivors and techniques used by the K-9 Demining Corp. to clear land mines. The national Adopt-a-Minefield program is patterned after the successful Adopt-a-Highway program; the Austin chapter is rasing money to de-mine a field in Praca, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
