Now that all is said and done, it’s clear that A Clockwork Orange and 2001: A Space Odyssey will be Stanley Kubrick’s lasting artistic legacy, not his “penultimate” movie of last summer, Eyes Wide Shut. Pulled from theatrical circulation for most of this year, A Clockwork Orange is now back in circulation, and the Alamo has it. A chilling classic, the movie is a scabrous satire about human deviance, brutality, and social conditioning that has remained a visible part of the ongoing public debate about violence and the movies.
