Members of Occupy Austin float signs outside the windows of the private global intelligence company Stratfor on March 5, 2012 to protest their involvement with the infiltration of Occupy Austin. Stratfor emails that were obtained by the hacktivist group Anonymous and eventually released by Wikileaks revealed the Texas Department of Safety had infiltrated Occupy Austin and shared information with Stratfor that was gathered while undercover. -
Musician Tom Morello, formerly of the band Rage Against the Machine sings Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land” at the South by Southwest music festival in downtown Austin March 17, 2012. Morello is an outspoken supporter of the Occupy movement. He has performed in New York City for Occupy Wall Street and has traveled to other Occupations around the country for performances. He was invited to do a street performance by the Occupy Austin working group, Occupy Southby. -
Occupy Austin participates in the national action “Chalkupy the World” across the street from the Texas State Capitol on August 9, 2012. Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers observed the action for about 20 minutes and then arrested Corey Williams (pictured) and another participant without explanation or warning. -
Occupy Austin member Ronnie Garza participates in a protest outside of Austin Police Department headquarters against local police infiltration of Occupy Austin on September 5, 2012. Garza is at the center of a possible entrapment case involving, Shannon Dowell, an undercover officer who encouraged Garza and others to use PVC pipes as part of a blockade of the Port of Houston which raised the charges for their civil disobedience from misdemeanor to felony charges. Dowell has testified in court regarding his involvement as part of the on-going case. -
Occupy Austin participates in the The Holiday Sing-Along & Downtown Stroll in downtown Austin on December 1, 2012 with light signs and singing of Occupy Christmas carols. -
Occupy Austin participant, James Peterson dressed as Santa Claus, is arrested by DPS troopers after he handed out chalk to children after an event at the Texas Capitol. Peterson wrote with chalk himself and encouraged the children to consider writing Christmas wishes such as “joy”, “love” and “peace” with chalk. Peterson was charged with criminal mischief and evading arrest.
