At its March 28 meeting, the West Lake Hills City Council authorized Mayor Dave Claunch to try and wrest control of its wastewater system from the Lower Colorado River Authority. The city council authorized an offer of $16 million – a figure that is roughly in line with previous offers the city has made for its wastewater system. Also this week, the LCRA formally announced that it had closed a deal with Canadian water infrastructure and management firm Corix for that organization to buy 20 of the utility’s water and wastewater systems. It’s all part of a massive divestiture effort by LCRA designed to help avert continuing losses that have mounted into the hundreds of millions.
