As the world’s eyes turn to Dubai for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), Austin-based Texas Impact/Texas Interfaith Power & Light is sending video dispatches from the conference to the Chronicle.

Travis County Commissioner Brigid Shea is attending COP28 in her role as USA Board Chair of ICLEI: Local Governments for Sustainability. Shea is focused on all things local government, including sharing best practices with colleagues in cities and other “subnationals” from the U.S. and around the world. She’s participated in events with climate luminaries Al Gore and Hillary Clinton, but her fondest hope for her time in Dubai is getting a tour of Dubai’s massive desalination plant…because, as a growing chorus of local leaders are pointing out, local government is where solutions get implemented.
