The feds plan to host a sustainable transportation workshop this month in Arlington. The March 23 event, called Planning for Sustainable Transportation in the 21st Century, will explain all the latest “sustainable/livable” initiatives – and funding opportunities – coming from the federal government. Hosted by the North Central Texas Council of Governments, it is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as the Texas Transportation Institute. Each will have staff on hand to explain the Obama administration’s new goals for sustainable development. Among those attending from Austin hoping to bring the ideas (and federal funds) to Central Texas will be Joe Cantalupo, executive director of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization; Todd Hemingson of Capital Metro; and Sally Campbell of Envision Central Texas.
