Cornyn and Noriega on PBS Credit: texasdebates.com

That’s it. I’m done with Rasmussen Reports. Seriously, am I really supposed to believe that Rick Noriega is 15% behind John Cornyn in the U.S. Senate race, when just a month ago they pegged him at only seven points behind? And as I’ve complained before, their numbers go up and down like a yo-yo. Really, was there some major event that swung things around? Did zillions of Texans tune to those public television debates and decisively shift to Cornyn? With all due respect to PBS, I doubt it.

In seven polls since May, they have put Cornyn’s lead at (in chronological order) 4%, 17%, 13%, 10%, 11%, 7%, and as of Tuesday, 15%. I suppose I can take one thing away from RR’s polling: It seems clear that Cornyn has a solid enough lead on Noriega that it won’t be overcome, but whether it will be fairly close or a blowout, I have no idea.
