A bunch going down this week, not the least of which being Thursday’s City Council meeting. It’s 58 items deep, including an item from Bill Spelman requiring so-called “crisis pregnancy centers” to post signs stating they “do not provide or refer for abortions or comprehensive birth control services.”
But we’ll save that for tomorrow. As the month has just rolled over, the city’s facing a tsunami of board and commission meetings. So here’s the Hustle’s first-ever all What the hell else is happening? dispatch:
B&Cs are back, baby! The Comprehensive Planning and Transportation Committee meets in the boards and commissions room at City Hall, 301 W. Second, 2pm. Among the agenda items: a Comp Plan update, and discussion of the Airport Boulevard “Corridor Redevelopment Initiative,” i.e., what sounds like Chris Riley’s proposed form-based code zoning revamp.
The always entertaining Public Safety Commission takes the B&C room over at 4pm, starting with a presentation on “gang presence in Austin and Central Texas and related organized crime, violence and illegal drug transport and trafficking activity,” followed by an update on Austin’s fusion center (delayed pending privacy concerns since we wrote this last year), and an overview of APD’s blood draw program.
The Music Commission headlines the B&C room at 6pm, receiving briefings on SXSW, ME TV, and updates on city-related music projects.
The Art in Public Places panel meets at City Hall, Room 2016, 6pm, to name an artist for Town Lake Park’s ongoing AIPP projects, and talk art at Seaholm.
The Office of the Police Monitor Citizen Review Panel meets in City Council chambers at 6pm.
