Prop 1s victory last night was probably the only salve for local officials witnessing much of the Central Texas* Dem delegation Valinda Bolton, Patrick Rose, and Diana Maldonado getting wiped out.
At the Prop 1 bash, we asked: What were their thoughts about change at the state house?
Redistricting was on the mind of two council members the Hustle caught up with, Lee Leffingwell and Randi Shade. Turnover is always something we have to be cornered about, said Leffingwell. But the fact the lege will be instantly confronted with a gaping state deficit in the billions means that’s going to take up a lot of their time. And also redistricting. So hopefully they’ll have very little time to focus on Austin bashing.
Lots of issues hammering Texas. Maybe not the best time to take a book tour?
Probably not, Leffingwell conceded.
There’s no question we have to be cognizant of what happens, certainly with the Travis County delegation, and at the state level, and the federal level, said Shade. They affect redistricting, and that affects us. Aren’t we the biggest city in the country without a designated congressman?
As if last night wasnt dispiriting enough
