Those wondering what the feds were looking for when they raided Twin Liquors‘ headquarters last April received a clue this morning. The Austin American-Statesman has uncovered documents that say the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is investigating suspected ties between the chain and former nightclub giant Yassine Enterprises.
In the lawsuit, Twin Liquors attorneys say that the TABC is looking to revoke the company’s liquor permit – a move that would shutter over 70 locations. Although TABC spokeswoman Carolyn Beck offered no further detail to The Statesman, she did confirm that the commission is seeking revocation.
The lawsuit, filed in Travis County District Court, alleges that the TABC has exceeded its authority in the investigation, noting that attorneys for the Jabour family have not been given access to documents seized in the April raid. The suit also notes that the lawyers have not had access to deposed witnesses.
In a statement provided to The Statesman, Twin Liquors vowed to fight what they are calling a “witch hunt.” Currently, no court date has been scheduled.
