It looks like Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo is here to stay – for at least a few more years. Acevedo, who had been one of six finalists for taking over the top-cop spot in Dallas, said April 27 that he had withdrawn his name from consideration – just one day before Dallas’ City Manager Mary Suhm announced her choice for the job: David Brown, first assistant chief for the Dallas Police Department. The decision came amid rumors that Acevedo had already been offered the job and was in contract negotiations over a salary. Acevedo said he was “touched” by local support, and “it was just too much to walk away right now from such a great community.” City Manager Marc Ott said that he was pleased with Acevedo’s decision: “He is a strong Police Chief for our City. His commitment to transparency and accountability has made the APD one of the best managed forces in the nation.”
