You’ve got your Don Draper tie, your Snooki hair poof and your mining helmet all ready: It’s Halloween 2010 and you’re Sixth Street bound. The Austin Police Department has a few reminders for those making the trek to Austin’s craziest street on one of its busiest nights.
Leave the mining pick at home. Unless it soft rubber or plastic, weapons of any kind will not be permitted onto Sixth Street. Police will be placing stickers on approved props and the sticker must remain visible on your Zorro sword all night. Prohibited items include: firearms, swords, relics, illegal knives, clubs and sharp items.
Ride your broomstick. The APD will be enforcing a “No Refusal Initiative” for the weekend, which will allow police to conduct blood search warrants on suspects who refuse to a breath or blood sample. If you bring the car and have one-too-many, SoberRide Austin is offering free cab rides home (up to a $30 value) for riders 21 years and older. Call 512-657-2999 on Saturday or Sunday from 11pm to 3am.
This ain’t no kiddie carnival. Children 17 years old and younger not accompanied by an adult must leave Sixth Street by 11 pm.
