Senators are discussing Houston GOP Sen. Dan Patrick‘s ultrasound-before-abortion bill (Senate Bill 16) on the floor right now. Among those in opposition to the bill are GOP Sen. Jeff Wentworth, who just rose to note that he is “a hairy-legged male who will never be pregnant myself.”

Wentworth also said he found it interesting that those pushing the bill are all male. He said that he’s heard mostly opposition to the bill from constituents and that he will be “voting ‘no’ for my district, and I will continue to vote ‘no.'”

Sens. Jose Rodriguez and John Whitmire have both risen to voice opposition to the bill – Whitmire is still speaking now; Dewhurst will soon call for a vote to move it over to the House.

Watch here.

UPDATE: The committee substitute bill just passed the Senate. It will move to the House now for round two of the ultrasound fight. Stay tuned!
