Major regional station and gateway to Austin (Jana McCann Architect)

According to the ATS portfolio, the Seaholm Power Plant site and adjacent city-owned properties are ripe to become a “Union Station” for Austin — much like those in Dallas, St. Louis, and Washington. McCann’s design shows Seaholm as a multi-use facility operating as train station/visitor’s center/cultural center/entertainment/restaurant. The site could eventually incorporate its architectural cousin, the Green Water Treatment Pump Station, the building directly across Cesar Chavez from Seaholm with its foundations submerged in Town Lake. Green could become a waterfront bar and cafe, and be physically connected to the Seaholm site with a pedestrian bridge over Cesar Chavez, supported by the railroad bridge.
