Gov. Rick Perry just addressed the Senate. He described the experience he had in his days as a legislator, driving down South Congress Avenue toward the north, and seeing the Capitol and feeling excited “knowing that’s where I get to go to work. I still get goosebumps down my spine thinking about coming to work in this place.”

Perry told freshmen to “get ready for the time of your life” and “aside from your family and spouse, you’re probably not going to do anything as important in life as your work in this chamber.

“We come from a lot of different places,” Perry continued. “We come from the most remote parts of the state. We come from another time zone. It’s a big ol’ state, but are we ever blessed to live in this great state at this moment in time. We have one thing in common, though: We love Texas.”

Perry then whispered something to Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, and Dewhurst laughed and told the crowd, “He just asked me: ‘What do I do now? Just leave?’” The crowd laughed, and Dewhurst said, “I did not say ‘Get the hell out of here.’ I did not say that.”
