Following Saturday‘s violent neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, which left 19 injured and one dead after a car – driven by a Nazi sympathizer activist – plowed through a counter-protest crowd, politicians around the country – from both sides of the aisle – have publicly slammed white nationalism and Nazism head on.

But here in Texas, only one state leader, moderate Republican House Speaker Joe Straus, directly condemned white supremacy by name. His counterpart in the Senate, the right-wing Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, failed to do so, only offering a vague and milquetoast criticism of “hatred and bigotry” on all sides.

Deduce accordingly.
