The rescheduled groundbreaking — actually, they’re calling it a “ground digging” — for the new Whole Foods Market store and corporate HQ at 501 N. Lamar (across Sixth from the current store) will take place today (Thursday) at 10am. Local dignitaries and Whole Foods brass will “Dig In!” and plant a “symbolic” pecan tree to represent Whole Foods extending its Austin roots.

A benefit for Bikes Across Borders to Cuba will be held Saturday, July 12, 8pm, at Ruta Maya, 3601 S. Congress Ste. D-200 (behind Exposé). Admission is a sliding-scale donation of $5-10; no one will be turned away. There’ll be live music by Nelson Saga & Weapons of the Soul and Tierra Brava, plus entertainment by Radical Cheerleaders, photography from Cuba, Cycle Circus Comics, and the Beehive Collective Banners. Last year Bikes Across Borders traveled to Cuba with Pastors for Peace and delivered 23 bikes, bike parts, and two complete tool sets.
