Has the finger-pointing begun inside the Bush campaign? If the Drudge Report — not always the most reliable source — is to be believed, then Bush’s chief strategist, Karl Rove, is getting the blame for Bush’s losses in Michigan and Arizona. On Wednesday, Drudge quoted an unnamed Bush campaign insider who said it’s “becoming increasingly clear that Karl should step aside.” Drudge quoted the insider as saying Bush went from leading by 30 points in Michigan to losing by six points and that “Karl foolishly argued that we should spend millions of dollars in Arizona, a complete and embarrassing waste of our resources. Karl is not focused. Our internal polls show that we are going to lose California, if we don’t switch gears.” Calls to the Bush campaign press office for a comment on the Drudge item were not returned by press time.
