So why, if the tax roll has grown more than 16% in the last year, are we pulling money from under the city’s mattress? Because both Garza and the council think the Lord will strike them dead if they raise property taxes to a logical level. If we simply maintained the rate in place right now, we’d end up with $15 million more in the General Fund.
