Last Thursday marked the first partnership between Maxum Development and the Worker’s Defense Project. In a press conference held at 21Rio, the plan was announced to ensure better safety training and protection for workers.

Maxum was the builder of 21 Rio, where three workers fell to their deaths from faulty scaffolding in 2009. Maxum is partnering with WDP to become Austin’s first Premier Community Builder – a program implemented by the WDP this year to provide safer work practices and conditions to prevent on-site hazards.

The agreement will allow for increased communication between workers and builders and will extend to all of Maxum’s future development sites.
