Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson today tapped a veteran North Texas jurist to preside over the court-of-inquiry for Williamson County Judge Ken Anderson.
In a one-page letter, Jefferson assigned Tarrant County Judge Louis Sturns to preside over the hearing for Anderson, where Sturns will be asked to determine whether Anderson in 1987, while serving as WilCo district attorney, hid from Michael Morton evidence that could have helped to prove he did not murder his wife, Christine.
Morton spent nearly 25 years in prison for the bludgeoning death of his wife; he was freed last year after DNA evidence pointed to another man, Mark Alan Norwood, as the real killer.
Last week, Judge Sid Harle signed off on a probable cause affidavit saying that enough evidence exists to put Anderson before a court of inquiry.
