Congressman John Carter, R-Round Rock, just sent out his weekly “Carter Courier” newsletter, with this appalling subject line: “Is Obama a Marxist?”
Carter’s District 31, which runs from Williamson County up to Stephenville, is in what’s probably a safe enough Republican district that he doesn’t have to worry about a Democrat ever knocking him off, but red-baiting crap like this just shows why the majority in this nation increasingly just doesn’t take the GOP seriously. Keep digging, John.
(Strong evidence that Carter is completely out of touch with reality: He actually thinks the Moonie-owned Washington Times is a serious journalism outlet.)
Text of his message after the jump:
Obama-Democrat economic policies identified as European-style Social Democrat philosophy
Congressman John Carter identified the political philosophy of the Obama Administration as that of European-style Social Democrats, according to the Washington Times. An objective definition of social democracy from Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary,” the congressman found, “is as follows: ‘A political movement advocating a gradual and peaceful transition from capitalism to socialism by democratic means.'” The Times added a backup definition to Carters, writing, Here is the first paragraph from the Encyclopedia Britannica about social democracy: ‘A political ideology that advocates a peaceful, evolutionary transition of society from capitalism to socialism using established political processes. Based on 19th century socialism and the tenets of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, social democracy shares common ideological roots with communism, but eschews its militancy and totalitarianism.'” The same story also ran in Human Events.
