• As we went to press, the worldwide economic crisis continued to expand, as governments everywhere looked for ways to stop the bleeding. Central banks slashed interest rates as stock markets fell sharply worldwide, and President Bush suggested we all “hang in there.”
• As national and swing-state polls continued to break in Barack Obama‘s direction, the presidential candidates debated Tuesday night, largely addressing the economic meltdown. Overnight polls among viewers found Obama had widened his lead.
• Texas is still Clinton country. Hillary has endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Rick Noriega, while Bill will be in Houston on Monday fundraising for state Senate hopeful Chris Bell.
• The battle over the Stop Domain Subsidies charter amendment is going full-bore. SDS’ Brian Rodgers, pointing to developer campaign contributions, says Will Wynn has a conflict of interest. Wynn says: “You bet I’m campaigning against Prop. 2. … To suggest that I ‘should not intervene’ is just silly.”
• Pack an extra quarter: Capital Metro introduces its new fare schedule on Oct. 13.
