“Red State Blues: A Concert For Change is unique to our nation, quintessentially Austin, and apropos for our historic political temperature,” says event organizer Kay Gourley. It’s the third and by far, the biggest iteration of the election-eve spirit booster.
“To give a little history of Red State Blues, it started in ’03 with going to Clifford Antone with the idea of fusing music along with politics for a rally for the people before election day.” Gourley writes. “It was an huge success in ’04 at Antone’s and in ’06. Obviously this is our break-out year and we, along with Graham Williams from Transmission Entertainment decided this was the time to take out of a club and go big. Risky yes, because we need to sell 4,000 tickets. It’s a leap of faith on our parts and believe this can happen. It all started here with Bush 13 years ago, so how apropos this is where it’s going to end, so let’s celebrate together.”
The event goes down Monday, Nov. 3 the night before E-Day with music from Brownout!, James McMurtry, and Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. Tickets info, times and more below the fold.
