Felines are fun: They purr, chase sunlight, and curl up in cute little balls when they sleep. What’s not to love? The Austin Humane Society is serving up a special feline event tomorrow (Friday), reducing adoption fees for feline friends to just $5. You heard that right, just five smackers.
With the dawn of kitten season upon us, the adoption event featuring some 75 felines ready to find their new homes will also help free shelter space for the nearly 1,000 cats the AHS expects will move through the shelter this summer.
That’s a lot of cats. Indeed, in 2010 the AHS and Town Lake Animal Center saw a 40% increase over the previous year in the number of cats brought to the two shelters. In 2009, the AHS took in 1,909 cats; in 2010, that number increased to 2,167. (Not a bad place to pause to remind you to spay and neuter your pets. Please.)
The $5 adoption fee will be offered tomorrow, Friday, April 15, at the AHS’ North Austin shelter, from noon to 7p. The fee includes spay/neuter surgery, up-to-date vaccinations, microchip implant, one month of pet health insurance and lots of coupons. What a bargain!
