The Austin Independent School District’s board of trustees approved a plan Monday to reduce overcrowding at Linder and Walnut Creek elementary schools.
The plan will shrink the attendance boundary for the school, which has been operating at 155% capacity, and will enlarge the boundaries of nearby Brooke, Metz, and Sanchez elementaries, which have all been operating below capacity. Fifth-graders at Linder wont be moved next year, and will still remain with their classmates through middle and high school.
The trustees also agreed to move the 210 students in the Bilingual Vietnamese Program at Walnut Creek to Summit Elementary. Walnut Creek is at 119% capacity, while Summit is at 67%.
