Texas Legislature Results
Nothing could be more dull than the Texas legislative races. No U.S. House race was closer than 10 points, leaving the D.C. delegation 17-13 Democrat. In the state Senate, the supposed squeaker in District 3 turned into a blowout, as GOP state Rep. Todd Staples stomped all over lawyer David Fisher to hold the Republicans’ 16-15 edge in the upper house. (Much closer, actually, was the re-election victory of Dallas’ David Cain.) And on the east side of the Capitol, Ds and Rs traded exactly one seat each in the state House of Representatives — Chuck Hopson taking Staples’ open House seat in Palestine, and David Langefeld losing his re-election bid in Stephenville. The only really close race was in Huntsville, where incumbent Democrat Dan Ellis held on by his cuticles. This leaves the House as it was, 78-72 Democrat.
