Four to Follow

U.S. House, District 14

Weird as he is, Libertarian-cum-GOP Rep. Ron Paul has the upper hand in his rematch with former Matagorda County Judge Loy Sneary. Roll Call marks this race as “Likely Republican,” while Congressional Quarterly ranks Dr. No as “favored.” Both are one step below “safe,” though, meaning an upset can’t be ruled out.

Travis Co. District Attorney

Things are looking good for Democratic D.A.-for-Life Ronnie Earle in his rematch with Assistant Attorney General Shane Phelps. According to Travis County Democratic Party polling, unless local Ds are swamped at the polls by a tidal wave of Bushies, Earle should easily win his seventh term.

U.S. House, District 48

Likewise, Democratic contender Ann Kitchen has the edge in her race with Republican Jill Warren for the seat being vacated by retiring Democratic Rep. Sherri Greenberg, if the Dems can turn out their people in this slightly swinging district.

Capital Metro Proposition 1

Light rail now, or never? Polls have shown a soft lead for rail throughout the campaign, but rail backers insist right now that the race is really, really close and will go down to the wire on Election Night.
