Beginning November 1, students who live in on-campus residence halls and off-campus co-ops will compete in a “Do It in The Dark” contest to reduce their energy consumption, by turning off lights and unplugging appliances.

A Halloween-themed kick off event will be held today, Thursday, October 30th at 6pm at the Turtle Pond in the center of UT campus.

“The UT Energy Challenge uses peer-to-peer outreach to encourage energy conservation. It’s an important step towards major cultural change in favor of sustainability, which is the Campus Environmental Center’s primary mission,” said Karen Blaney. The CEC is a co-sponsor along with UT’s Environmental Science Institute.
