The proposed congressional redistricting map. Dist. 35, unmarked, is the gray district running from east Austin down I-35 to San Antonio.

The proposed map for congressional redistricting would chop up Travis County five ways and almost certainly leave most of our very liberal city under Republican representation. That’s based on a look at election results from the 2008 presidential and 2010 gubernatorial races.

These numbers are based on the precincts that would be in the new districts, not on the current districts. Incumbent in parentheses:

Dist. 10 (Mike McCaul, R)
2008 McCain (R) 55%
2010 Perry (R) 54%

Dist. 17 (Bill Flores, R)
2008 McCain 58%
2010 Perry 56%

Dist. 21 (Lamar Smith, R)
2008 McCain 56%
2010 Perry 58%

Dist. 25 (Lloyd Doggett, D)
2008 McCain 56%
2010 Perry 55%

Dist. 35 (new)
2008 Obama (D) 61%
2010 White (D) 57%
