National political observers are taking notice that Democrat Larry Joe Doherty‘s challenge to Republican Congressman Michael McCaul in District 10 is for real.
Today, the Cook Political Report downgraded McCaul’s perceived advantage in the race from “likely Republican” to “leans Republican.” Not too shabby for Doherty, considering the Cook ranks Dist. 10 as the “59th most Republican” out of the 435 Congressional districts.
Since May, in a district once considered unwinnable for Democrats, polls have shown McCaul’s lead dropping from 9% down to 4%. Last week, a Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll said the race had narrowed to 46% for McCaul vs. 42% for Doherty.
District 10 stretches from West Lake Hills, through north Austin and Pflugerville, and all the way out to the suburbs of Houston.
