Press release from Capital Metro:

Austin, Texas, May 27, 2008 – Capital Metro will hold three community meetings and a Board of Directors public hearing to gain feedback on a proposed fare increase that could take effect January 2009.

If approved, the proposal would change Capital Metro’s base bus fare from 50 cents to 75 cents in 2009 and $1 in October 2010. All other fares would be adjusted proportionately. The proposal also includes the option of zoned fares for Capital
MetroExpress bus and Capital MetroRail services.

It is necessary that Capital Metro propose this fare increase now to ensure a financially sustainable future to meet the demands of the area’s growing population.
