The Capital Metro Board of Directors voted to raise fares beginning January 18. The fare hike had already been approved to begin in August 2010, but decided to move the change up to January so as to keep federal stimulus money directed to rail improvements rather than daily operations.
The board amended the staff proposal, retaining free fares for seniors, people with disabilities, and Medicare cardholders.
Among other changes, a single-ride adult fare will jump from 75 cents to $1, a 24-hour pass goes from $1.50 to $2, and a 31-day pass escalates from $18 to $28. Fares on MetroAccess, a van service for the disabled, change from 70 cents to $1.20.
