Town center station with new development along main street (Carter Design Associates)
This station would be on Capital Metro’s Red Line, between the planned
northeastern extension of Cypress Creek Road and US183. Single-family
subdivisions have recently been built to the north of Brushy Creek Road, but
much of the area south of the tracks is undeveloped. There are almost no local
retail or services in the vicinity, forcing residents to venture into the
highly congested US 183 corridor for even minor needs. The proposed light rail
station and the main street treatment of South Mustang Street as a mixed-use,
pedestrian-oriented axis can provide a low-scale commercial town center to
Cedar Park. A park-and-ride / kiss-and-drop facility will also allow Williamson
County residents to access the transit network. To the south of Cypress Creek
Extension, Carter Design has proposed a neo-traditional neighborhood laid out
along a grid street system, placing higher residential densities and uses along
the main street, while scaling back to townhouse and single-family residential
development toward the south.
