VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE APRIL 12
AUSTIN, TEXAS – Thursday, April 12 is the deadline to register to vote in the May 12 Joint General and Special Election. Voters who have a yellow voter certificate with their current residence address are registered and eligible to vote.
To check voter eligibility and, for those who have not registered or those who need to update, there are three options:
• Download a voter registration application or link to update address at www.traviscountytax.org.
• Contact the voter registration office for assistance at (512) 854-9473.
• Visit a tax office location or pick up a voter registration application at post office locations, public libraries, many government offices and grocery stores.
Until recently, the May 12 election involved 27 local jurisdictions such as cities and schools conducting bond and trustee elections. There was no county-wide issue. That changed this week with Secretary of State Roger Williams’ announcement from the state legislature.
On May 12 voters will consider a constitutional amendment to approve or disapprove a reduction in school taxes for senior and disabled persons. The reduction is based on legislation enacted last year that reduced school taxes for all homeowners but did not take into account the school tax “ceiling” paid by seniors and disabled persons.
