Sgt. Kenny Wilson

After battling with esophageal cancer for two years, veteran Austin Police Dept. Sgt. Kenny Wilson died today. He was 55.

APD Chief Art Acevedo earlier this week honored Wilson, a Bomb Squad Unit supervisor, with the Distinguished Command Medal, one of the department’s highest honors.

“Kenny was the epitome of professionalism,” Acevedo said in a press release. “He showed that every day we have is a blessing. Kenny touched many lives both inside and outside the [APD]. His smile, courage and spirit will never be forgotten.”
