There’s no direct translation for “Montañozo,” one of the standouts from Grupo Fantasma’s Grammy-nominated El Existential. Perhaps that’s why director Aaron Brown scripted the cumbia-psych romp to a border town, fugitive-love drama, featuring shaded animation by Dirty Car Art(ist) Scott Wade.
Candi & the Strangers, “Moving in Stereo”
In anticipation of Candi & the Strangers’ second LP, 10th of Always, the local space cadets released this dreamy rendition of the Cars classic “Moving in Stereo,” a non-album single with an accompanying video shot by bandmember John Constant. The kaleidoscopic sci-fi venture reportedly prefaces a full-length animation feature called Children of the Tone. Epic.
The White White Lights, “Swampland Man”
This week’s Austin Music Weekly spotlight falls on the White White Lights. The new project from former Lomita guitarist Deluxe Peroux and vocalist Jenny Gacy has been relatively quiet since picking up a least one nod for best new local band in 2009. This shot from Cheer Up Charlie’s finds the quartet delving deeper into the rootsier moments of its debut EP, Medium Head Boy, huffing and puffing through primitive backwoods blues.
