OTR’s still recovering from a dusty, delirious weekend in Waterloo Park for Fun Fun Fun Fest so for this edition of Wednesday Rewind we’re focusing strictly on the letter B: Bright Light Social Hour, Buttercup, Band of Heathens, and Bill Baird’s Sunset.
Bright Light Social Hour, “Back and Forth”
Without even a proper release to its name, Bright Light Social Hour took home Best Indie Band at this year’s Austin Music Awards. The quartet’s recent self-titled debut proves it had the goods, and this soulful jam, with stop-motion video direction, has been in near-constant rotation on OTR’s Daily Dose.

Buttercup, “Superior”
Suggestions from YouTube accompanying this selection include OK Go and “Darth Vader’s Voice Before Voice Over.” That seems like perfect company for this quirky San Antonio-based pop outfit.

Band of Heathens, “Talking Out Loud”
Austin’s Band of Heathens celebrate their fifth anniversary at Momo’s on Friday, Nov. 26. Here’s a live outtake from the Music Fog in Steamboat, Colorado to tide you over until then.

Sunset, “Lunar Eyes”
Not to be confused with the recent vinyl pressing of Bill Baird’s 2006 ambient album, Silence!, “Lunar Eyes” is taken from Sunset’s brand new double LP, Loveshines But the Moon Is Shining Too and offers about what you’d expect from the prolific, eccentric pop savant.
