Last year, our highlighted locals showcasing at South by Southwest included Speak, Danny Malone, and hip-hop crew the League of Extraordinary Gz (see “Casual Victim Pile II,” March 11, 2011), all three performing again next week. The year before that, our roundup included personal favorites Dikes of Holland, Follow That Bird, the Sour Notes, Wolfgang Gartner, and Nakia (see “Casual Victim Pile,” March 12, 2010), also all green-lit for the 2012 edition of SXSW. All the hot new acts profiled in this grouping could make the cut again next year. Here’s hoping they won’t have to, and that yet another wave of Austin acts evolves the scene ever forward as it does every spring.
