Blazing alongside Stevie Ray Vaughan in the Cobras, then five years on the road with Bob Dylan, Denny Freeman now performs his guitar magic in front of smaller yet appreciative crowds. Along with former Cobras drummer Rodney Craig and two Doug Sahm compadres, guitarist John Reed and bassist Speedy Sparks, he gets the weekend started on the good foot. “One day the Saxon needed a band on a Saturday afternoon,” recalls Freeman. “At the same time, Fridays opened up. It’s a bunch of old guys playing covers. They gave us a month. Two-and-a-half years later, we’re still doing it.”
