The Producers, part two

“The Producers.” Mel Brooks’ best movie or the Chronicle‘s cover story last November? Both. And as with any good story, last year’s section profiling
four locals that are piling up producer’s credits (Stephen Bruton, John
Croslin, Paul Leary, and David McNair), merely spawned a whole other crop of
names; Like Leary’s right-hand man, Stuart Sullivan, and Croslin’s competitor
for the title of Austin’s “alternative” alchemist, Brian Beattie. Or Mark
Hallman, who’s not only proving himself a specialist with local
singer-songwriters, but also has the commerical studio — Congress House — to
go with his credentials. And then there’s Lloyd Maines, whose name now seems to
grace every Lone Star gem as either producer or steel guitar player. Or both.
Here, then, are “The Producers.” Part Two. —
