This Sunday, 6pm, at the Paramount Theatre, Grand Champion, starring Julia Roberts, Charlie Robison, Natalie Maines, Joe Ely, Floramay Holliday, and many others, premieres. Local Flatlanders sidemen Screen Door Music provide the film’s soundtrack, which guitarist Robbie Gjersoe says is just what the instrumental band was formed to do. The Champion crew is not alone in working with Lone Star musicians, though. Take a look at these recent compilations and soundtracks featuring at least one Texas artist:

Caught in the Webb: A Tribute to Webb Pierce (Dale Watson, Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Rosie Flores); Evangeline Made: A Tribute to Cajun Music (Patty Griffin, Rodney Crowell); From Hell to Breakfast: A Taste of Sugar Hill’s Texas Singer-Songwriters (Gourds, Bad Livers, REK, and many more); The Rookie (Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Willie Nelson); Clockstoppers: Music From the Motion Picture (Fenix TX); Bill Paxton‘s Frailty, which was produced in part by Tom Huckabee of the Huns and whose soundtrack features Dale Watson.
